WHAT IS ISLAM?
The word Islam means voluntary “Submission” or “Surrender” to the Will of ALLAH (God).  It derives from the root word “salam,” meaning peace.  Islam is based on the following five principals:

  • TAWHEED or the Oneness of ALLAH (GOD)
The Islamic belief in the oneness of GOD as its has been brought to us by all the prophets before the coming of the Islamic prophet, MUHAMMAD. ( peace be upon them all )
  • SALAT or prayer.
Salat is the ultimate submission of body mind and soul 5 times a day. Prostration to the only creator of the Heavens and the Earth and every thing between that seen and unseen. Prostration found in the old and new Testament.
  • ZAKAT or purification of the wealth you possess on a yearly basis.
Zakat is an additional form of worship which can be accomplished through financial means. It is designed primarily to alleviate the financial burdens of the poor who are unable to meet their needs.
  • SAUM or Fasting.
Fasting is another form of worship through obedience and unconditional submission. Abstinence from lawful food and drink, and intimacy with one’s spouse, in order to acquire God consciousness, and train oneself to gain piety and righteousness.
  • HAJJ or The Pilgrimage
One of the obligations of the five(5) pillars of ISLAM, the pilgrimage to the Holy Land of Mecca is done through the commandments enshrined in the Holy Qu’ran and the practices of Muhammad (PBUH) the Messenger of Allah. It can be performed once in a lifetime to deepen one’s faith, and draw one closer to the creator.
